The 2025 National Bridge League, organized by the Uganda Bridge Federation, is poised for a dramatic conclusion as the third and penultimate round concluded on Saturday, March 15, at Makerere University. MUK Bridge Club 1 solidified its position at the top of the standings with an impressive 775.87 Victory Points (VPs), maintaining a narrow lead over a resurgent Ndejje Mavericks 3, who climbed to second place with 756.22 VPs. With just one round remaining, the race for the title is heating up as the league heads to Ndejje University for the final showdown on March 29.

The third round saw MUK Bridge 1 face stiff competition in their three matches against Ndejje Mavericks 1, Mixed Team 9, and Kyambogo Bridge. Their consistent performance across these encounters ensured they held onto their lead, but the gap has shrunk to a mere 19.65 VPs. Ndejje Mavericks 3, buoyed by a strong showing in the latest round, leapfrogged from third to second, signaling their intent to challenge for the top spot in what promises to be a fiercely contested finale.

As the ten-team tournament approaches its climax, all teams have two matches left to play at Ndejje University. For MUK Bridge 1, the path to securing the championship involves overcoming seventh-ranked University Aces 1 and fifth-ranked Victoria Bridge. Both opponents will be eager to upset the frontrunners and bolster their own standings, making these matchups critical tests of MUK Bridge 1’s resolve.

Meanwhile, Ndejje Mavericks 3 faces a challenging yet potentially rewarding final round. Their first match pits them against fourth-ranked Ndejje Mavericks 1, a formidable intra-club showdown that could prove decisive in their pursuit of the lead. They will then conclude their campaign against the bottom-ranked Mixed Team 9, an opportunity to maximize their VP tally if they can deliver a convincing victory. A strong performance in both matches could see them overtake MUK Bridge 1 and claim the title.

The stakes are high for all teams as the National Bridge League, a highlight of Uganda’s growing bridge community, showcases the strategic brilliance and teamwork of the country’s top players. Earlier rounds, held at Victoria University on February 22 and the Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) Kabojja campus on March 1, set the stage for this thrilling conclusion. MUK Bridge 1 has been a dominant force throughout the season, surging to the top after a commanding performance in the second round, while Ndejje Mavericks 3’s late charge has injected fresh excitement into the competition.

Bridge, a trick-taking card game played with a standard 52-card deck by four players in two partnerships, continues to gain traction in Uganda, particularly within university circles. The Uganda Bridge Federation’s efforts to promote the sport have been evident in the competitive spirit and skill on display throughout the 2025 season.

As the final round approaches, all eyes will be on Ndejje University, where the championship will be decided. Will MUK Bridge Club 1 hold firm under pressure to clinch the title, or can Ndejje Mavericks 3 pull off a stunning upset to finish atop the standings? With only two matches left, every play, bid, and trick will count in this battle for supremacy in Uganda’s Bridge League 2025.
